A New Toy!Posted by Josh (Pasadena, United States) on 4 March 2008 in Art & Design. Well, I bought myself a birthday present this year and finally made the jump to DSLR! I picked up a new Nikon D40 with 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G and 55-200mm f/4-5.6G lenses, and it finally came in the mail! I'm really excited to start exploring all the features and getting to know SLR photography! Any tips, especially from users of this camera, would be much appreciated!

Michael Rawluk from Prince George, CanadaIt isn't a Canon but it probably a decent camera anyway. 4 Mar 2008 5:08am @Michael Rawluk: Haha, i sure hope so! I do love canon but this was the best option for me now being a starving student. Thanks for the comment! @Elisa: Thanks, I'll do my best :) Bonj from Jefferson City, United StatesHappy Birthday! Pyd from Etampes, FranceMy own jump (2006) to DSLR Nikon D50 was a great moment in my life. Hope it will be the same for you. 4 Mar 2008 10:32am @Pyd: Thank you, I certainly hope so. So far so good! Melissa from Warsaw, Indiana, United StatesCongrats on the camera, even if it isn't a Canon. (just kidding) ;) 4 Mar 2008 2:15pm @Melissa: Thanks a lot Melissa! I love the tips, especially coming from such a die hard canon owner ;) I found some fountains yesterday and started playing with shutter-priority with some cool results, and then played with Aperture on a field of shrubs. It's great having such control now, and I love the feeling of having a lot to learn. Thanks again, and hope you like the upcoming shots! @Laurie: Thanks, I'm sure I will :) Krisu from Tampere, FinlandCongrats! You'll be so glad that you didn't buy a Canon! Nikon is the best, trust me, I have it ! :D 4 Mar 2008 8:46pm @Krisu: Haha, thanks! It's always good to hear a satisfied buyer of something you just bought yourself! MaryB from Staffordshire, United Kingdom"Happy Birthday" and congrats on your new cam. 4 Mar 2008 9:24pm @MaryB: Thanks Mary, and congrats to you as well! Chris from South Jersey, United StatesHave fun with the new toy - as others have said, experiment as much as possible (easy with digital since you don't have to pay to develop!!). 4 Mar 2008 10:12pm @Chris: Oh yeah, it's fun playing around with the setting and all. I have a much greater appreciation now for people who use(d) film! D+K from Pasadena, United StatesNice man. Hope that you are enjoying it and take some rad portraits of people you work with! 4 Mar 2008 10:48pm Ben Wideman from Pasadena, CA, United StatesCan't wait to see all the amazing stuff you come up with! Looks pretty sweet. 5 Mar 2008 6:41am Japanalia from Yokohama, JapanCongratulations for being the happy owner of this new TOY!!! And....what a toy it is! 5 Mar 2008 7:47am @Samuelw: Yeah i'm pretty happy about it! jean-sebastien from St-joseph du lac, CanadaHi bud I have made over 10k shot with my D40 for now. Ive covered many events, have done lot of macro with 105mm-vr lens of nikon, lot of landscape, lots of portrait, and seriously its a GREAT camera, a little gem. Almost weightless, it is fun to carry the D40 almost everywhere. I have shot a lot with friends of mine that use canon mostly. Im the president of a university photo club and with experience now, I can say that we took, with a big majority, photo that I have made over the canon photos that my friends took over the same event. Well I am pretty sure that you will love your purchase. If you have any question do not hesitate ! 1 Jun 2008 6:24am |
